A new report highlights possible links between environmental exposures and rising cancer rates in Iowa. Researchers and public health experts are calling for stronger protections, better monitoring, and coordinated action to address risks tied to pesticides, nitrates, PFAS, and radon.

William Penn senior Xzavion West earned Heart of America Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week honors after setting a school record in the hammer throw and posting top finishes at the Grand View Viking Relays. West now leads both the conference and NAIA rankings in the event.

William Penn sophomore Brady Zell has earned his second Heart of America Athletic Conference Setter of the Week honor this season after leading the Statesmen men’s volleyball team to a perfect 3-0 record. Zell totaled 119 assists across three matches to help guide the offense.

Statesmen of the Week: Everett Breniser and Nikolle Kussatz

William Penn University has named Everett Breniser and Nikolle Kussatz as Statesmen of the Week following standout performances in men’s lacrosse and women’s shotgun sports competition. Breniser recorded three goals and 10 assists in a dominant win, while Kussatz earned top finishes at the ACUI National Championship.
