Warne Ends Career with Third-Team All-America Nod
by Wade Steinlage
Oskaloosa–Elise Warne (Sr., Melbourne, Australia, Exercise Science) capped one of the most accomplished careers in William Penn women’s golf history by netting a national award as the NAIA announced its All-America teams Monday.
Warne was chosen for the Third Team, one of 15 individuals to garner recognition on that squad. Fifteen members were named to both the first and second teams as well for a total of 45 linksters.
It is the first All-America laurel for Warne and the fourth in program history, all since the 2013-2014 campaign.
Warne guided the Statesmen to their sixth-straight Heart of America Athletic Conference title and sixth-straight NAIA National Championships appearance. WPU placed 14th in last week’s event. The navy and gold claimed seven event crowns this season.
For the year, the senior owned a 76.5 stroke average in 27 rounds, which crushes the old single-season average of 77.6 (Maggie Yang, 2014-2015). She won three tournament medalist awards and was in the top 10 on seven other occasions. Warne posted 22 rounds in the 70s with a low score of one-under 71.
Her career scoring average of 79.1 (98.5 rounds) also breaks the school record set by former two-time All-American Demi Coertze. She finished as a two-time Heart Player of the Year (one shared), a 10-time Heart Player of the Week, and nine-time tournament champion. Warne also tied or set marks for 18 holes (71), 36 holes (145), and 72 holes (299) as well as rounds played in a career.
