Oskaloosa, Iowa – As work to renovate the Dixon Block building, where Edward Jones Investments is located, owner Jen Main found a door to the past.
Eric Palmer is a long-time chamber member in Oskaloosa, and the chamber helped Jen Main make the connection for the wood and hand painted door to return to the Palmer family.
Palmer said that his grandfather started practicing law in 1922 in Cedar Rapids, but desired to return to the county, near his home of Malcom, Iowa.
Palmer found his way to New Sharon, Iowa in 1924 where he set up his law practice and was then elected as county attorney in 1930, serving four years.
On January 1st, 1935 Palmer opened his office in Oskaloosa above what is now the Edward Jones Office along High Avenue, owned by Jen Main.
Eric Palmer’s father joined his grandfather in law during the 1950’s, and Eric Palmer joined his father’s law office in 1987.
Palmer, seeing the door, got a big smile. “I thought all that stuff got destroyed.”
“Thank you,” said Palmer to everyone involved with the surprise.
After the presentation, Palmer and Tom Flaherty, (MCDG Director) walked the door to Palmer’s office along 1st Avenue.
