Petersen, Reed Sweep Heart Laurels
Oskaloosa–MacKenzie Petersen (Sr., Albertville, Minn., Public Accounting) and Madison Reed (Sr., Shakopee, Minn., Secondary Education) both excelled last week en route to sweeping the Heart of America Athletic Conference Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week honors Monday.
Petersen won the Offensive award, while Reed was tabbed as the Defensive recipient; it is the first award for both individuals. The duo helped the Statesmen to season-opening wins over Cornell and Wartburg last weekend.
Against Cornell, Petersen scored three goals with one assist, while Reed stopped seven of the 17 shots in which she faced.
Two days later versus Wartburg, Petersen scorched WPU’s opponent with four goals on four shots, along with an assist. She also managed five ground balls, caused five turnovers, and won one draw control.
Reed was stingy in front of the cage, posting more saves (5) than goals allowed (4).
For the year, Petersen has seven goals, two assists, five ground balls, and five caused turnovers, while Reed has posted 12 saves on a .462 save clip.
The awards are the first for the Statesmen this year.
