Oskaloosa Optimist Club to Honor Officers During Respecting for Law Week

OSKALOOSA – The Optimist Club of Oskaloosa will honor local officers and hopes others will show respect for law officers and staff during Respect for Law Week May 2-7, 2011.

Through the club’s Respect for Law event, the Oskaloosa Optimist Club members will honor Mahaska County and Oskaloosa city law enforcement by hosting a small dinner. Each officer will receive a certificate of appreciation from the club. The event will take place at Mahaska Law Center at 6 p.m., Thursday, May 5.

“We believe it is important as citizens to abide by the law, respect law enforcement and do what they can to maintain peace,” Club President Keith Comfort said. “We hope that our project lets officers know we appreciate what they do and will help in this effort.”

The Optimist Club of Oskaloosa is participating in Respect for Law for the first time, but has been active in the community since 1993. Other programs and service projects that the Club is involved in include Children’s Cancer Campaign and the Danny Joe Golf Tournament, Students of the Trimester at Oskaloosa Middle School, college scholarships. football skills contest, Oskaloosa Junior Golf tournament, summer reading program, Fire Pup program and many others.
