Since its ribbon cutting in the fall of 2009, Babe Ruth new fields project as progressed to completion! Plans for the grand opening of the Kentfield Babe Ruth Fields located at the Lacey Recreation Complex are set for a full day of fun Sunday, May 8th, 2011. Fields will open at 12:30 for registration. The event will start at 2:00 p.m. with a dedication to Charlie Kentfield and raising of the flag, donated to the Babe Ruth fields by Mrs Kentfield, that belonged to Charlie. The opening ceremony will precede a skills challenge for age groups U13, 13-15 and 16-19. This challenge will be immediately followed by the Home Run Derby for age groups 13-15, 16-19 and 19 up or Alumni. At the end of the day an Alumni game will be held under the lights. There is a $10 entry fee for all participants in skills, derby and game with all proceeds going toward the new Kentfield fields. Hy-Vee will provide a grill and concessions throughout the day. All are invited to participate in the games or just come out and spend a Sunday at the new Babe Ruth Fields! Enjoy food, friends, neighbors and watch youth and adults test their Babe Ruth Playing skills!

“We are excited to use the new fields and hope to attract other teams to the league,” said Bill Almond, President if the Babe Ruth organization. The Senior Babe Ruth team was able to play their last home game in April on the new fields, as they are finsihed with Bbae Ruth this year and would have no other opportunity. Despite the minor details still needing to be completed at that time it was noted how much they loved playing on the new fields.T he visiting coach from Ottumwa, upon seeing the fields, simply stated “Wow!” when he first looked at the fields and that he wished he had a field like this to play on!
