National Day of Prayer is May 5
The first Thursday of May is traditionally set aside for the people of this land to reflect upon the foundations of our country and to pray for our national and community leaders, our courts and schools, the brave men and women in our Armed Services, and for our churches and families. This year’s theme is “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God” and is based on Psalm 92:1, “I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust.'” Two events are being planned by some of the area churches and pastors to gather together as a community and offer prayers. Both events will be held Thursday, May 5.
Pastor Dale Visser stated, “The first is a time of ‘Prayer at the Mall,’ where you are invited to join us at the Penn Central Mall in Oskaloosa in the center area at 12:00 noon for a time of prayer. Prayer will begin around 12:15 and it will last no longer than 30-35 minutes so that you may return to work on time.
“The second event will be at 7:00 pm at the Jubilee Family Church, 401 South D Street in Oskaloosa. This service will center around various community participants leading us in a time of Scripture reading, prayer and fellowship.
“Come join us as we offer up our prayers and supplications to our Sovereign God.”
