National Day of Prayer Brings Believers To Center Court

Oskaloosa Assembly of God Pastor Mike Dotson speaks, at the National Day of Prayer, to those gathered in the center court of Penn Central Mall

“Fasting and prayer are religious exercises; the enjoining them an act of discipline. Every religious society has a right to determine for itself the time for these exercises, and the objects proper for them, according to their own particular tenets; and right can never be safer than in their hands, where the Constitution has deposited it.” Thomas Jefferson, 1808. This quote from Jefferson is also found on the National Day of Prayers website that is there to help coordinate the millions of American’s that took part in the days event.

Assembly of God Pastor Mike Dotson said that there were 2 events going on for the day of prayer in Oskaloosa. The event at Penn Central Mall was following the ACTS model, Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication. Four local ministers lead the individual portions of the event. Besides Mike Dotson, Dennis Morey of the Oskaloosa First Presbyterian Church, David Barner of the Evangelical Church in Oskaloosa and Michael Omundson of the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa all helped in the individual portions of the program.

“We just want to encourage people to pray, not just on the National Day of Prayer.” said Dotson, “it’s open for anyone to participate.”

Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Romans 12:12 NIV
