GRINNELL’S JUAN CARLOS PEREZ REACHES RARE MILESTONE BY EARNING 200TH CAREER TENNIS VICTORY
GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College men’s tennis player Juan Carlos Perez ’11 reached a rare milestone Friday by earning his 200th career victory during the Midwest Conference Championships in Madison, Wis.
Perez, from Quito, Ecuador (Martim Cerere), achieved the mark when he and Dmitriy Glumov ’11 won their No. 1 doubles match in a dual semifinal victory over Carroll University. Perez earned wins 201 and 202 in the team title match against Monmouth, as he and Glumov again won at doubles and Perez posted a win at No. 1 singles.
Research by Grinnell’s sports information staff indicates only a handful of NCAA Division III players have ever reached 200 wins.
Perez, already Grinnell’s career leader in singles victories, set the school mark for singles wins in a season Friday. He is now 29-2, while he and Glumov are 27-3 in doubles play.
Perez will be shooting for another milestone as the weekend continues as he pursues the maximum 12 MWC men’s career titles, which would be four in singles, four in doubles and four in the team competition. That feat has never been accomplished.
