Elementary students play and give

Pinch Pot project

William Penn University’s inauguration of it’s first woman president Ann Fields will have many activities in October. Some of those started yesterday at the Elementary art room, where some 5th graders put their pottery skills to the test making bowls for The Penn Souper Bowl Benefit which is scheduled for Sunday, October 3rd from 11:00 – 1:00 pm in the PAC at William Penn University. William Penn President Ann Fields was present and gave students a stone that listed some Quaker beliefs.

Not only are the 5th graders getting into the action, but so are members of the faculty and staff at William Penn as well as members of the Oskaloosa community itself. With donations from the local restaurants for the soup, $20 dollars will get you one of these works of art, and that comes with the soup and  sandwich. If you have the hungry family coming with you, they each can eat for an additional $5.00 at the benefit. All the proceeds will go to benefit the local Ecumenical Cupboard, as well as William Penn’s educational efforts in Rwanda.

When asked why she wanted to participate, local fifth grade student Candace Allsup stated “I thought that with William Penn University welcoming their first woman president, it would be nice to participate in making pottery bowls to help raise money for education in Rwanda. It will also help our local food pantry.”
