Conference-Favorite Statesmen Ranked #4 in Preseason Poll

Oskaloosa–The William Penn men’s basketball team has gained considerable early-season consideration as the NAIA released its preseason Division I top-25 poll Wednesday.

WPU, which was 22-12 last season (14-10 Heart), will begin the campaign at a lofty position of #4 with 196 points. It marks the 38th-consecutive time the Statesmen have been ranked in the top 25.

The navy and gold are one of four programs ranked within the Heart of America Athletic Conference, including #9 Benedictine, #20 Central Methodist, and #25 Peru State.

Defending national champion Georgetown (Ky.) took the #1 position with 219 points and all nine first-place votes. The Master’s (Calif.) is second, while Wayland Baptist (Texas) is third and Pikeville (Ky.) is fifth.

William Penn starts the season Sunday, hosting Presentation (S.D.) at 3 p.m.
