Agnes was born October 24, 1922, southwest of Fremont, the daughter of Wayne and Edna Caves Ahrens. She was raised and educated in the Fremont area graduating from Fremont High School in 1940. Agnes was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Oskaloosa. She was also a member of the Mahaska County Farm Bureau serving as a former Women’s County Chairman, former Cedar Township Chairman, a member of the Harrison Cedar Women, life member of the Mahaska County Historical Society, life member of the Ladies Auxiliary Veterans of Foreign Wars and served as a Cedar Township Trustee. Agnes also worked as curator at Nelson Pioneer Farm in Oskaloosa for many years. Agnes and her brother Willis, lived together for their entire lives except for the two year period when Willis served in the United States Army during WWII and a period of two years, when Agnes worked away from the family farm. She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters; Maude Evelyn Storm, Kathryn Hamilton, Eunice Grubb, Ellen Kellett, and Ruth Davis, and her brother; Willis Ahrens who passed away in 2008. She is survived by two brothers in law; Mayo Grubb, and Gilbert Hamilton; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Memorials may be made in her name to either the Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa, or the First Presbyterian Church, Oskaloosa.
