Move To New Location On Tap For Water Board

The Oskaloosa Municipal Water Department Board discusses what steps they will take in the move to their new location.
Oskaloosa, Iowa – At a recent Oskaloosa City Council meeting, the council agreed that the Oskaloosa Water Department shouldn’t spend any funds repairing the current building they occupy, which is owned by the city.
The city then offered to move the water department into the basement of city hall. Water Department Manager Chad Coon declined the offer saying he would prefer to keep all of his staff located together to help increase communication and increase efficiency.
At their Monday night board meeting, the decision was made to move to their newly acquired land on South 7th Street where a modular home, that is on the property, will be fitted with proper ADA requirements and utility hookups that are required to do business.
Concerns about moving too many times, and not wanting to cause customer confusion as to the location of the Water Department, the board voted 3-0 in favor of moving into the modular home on the site. Expected expenses include $750 for a handicap ramp and approximately $1000 to have internet capabilities added to the facility.
The board also heard the audit report for the fiscal year of 2011-12.
They also approved a new service fee that will be part of a service that will allow the department to collect money owed from a delinquent customers tax refund. This move will allow the department to collect 100% of owed money versus the 50% they are currently receiving with the debt collection service available.
