William Penn Wins Triangular Vs. Coe, Upper Iowa

Cedar Rapids–The Statesmen shotgun teams collected their third victory of the year, defeating Coe and Upper Iowa in a triangular Saturday.

WPU was led in the 150-shot event by Bryon Baca (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) who won High Overall Athlete laurels with a score of 144-for-150. Maclane Heinen (Fr., Pella, Iowa, Business Management) was right behind him at 143-for-150, while Christopher Berkshire-Lewis (So., Kansas City, Mo., Business Management) took home bronze one shot back at 142-for-150.

Baca claimed the 50-shot Skeet competition at 49-for-50, while Heinen earned the 100-shot Trap title at 97-for-100.

On the women’s side, Breale McFarland (Fr., Rio Rancho, N.M., Education) was the Skeet winner at 43-for-50. Madison Hutchings (Fr., Herriman, Utah, Business Management) tied for second amongst the females in Skeet.

“This team continues to bond and help each other succeed and improve,” Head Coach Steve Heaton said. “Now we just need to work on consistency at tournaments.”

Next Up: William Penn will host its first-ever event on April 10 as it welcomes teams for the Iowa SCTP Collegiate Skeet and Sports Clays. The event will be contested at the Mahaska County Izaak Walton League.
