Walling Loves Oskaloosa And Wants To Finish His Work
Oskaloosa, Iowa – The position for city council at large has two open positions this election cycle, and four individuals are seeking those positions. The incumbents Scottie Moore and Tom Walling are being challenged by Wyatt Russell and Charlie Comfort.
Walling and his family have been a part of Oskaloosa for six generations, of which three generations owned and operated the Oskaloosa Herald. Walling is a vice president of the service division at Cunninghams Inc. in Oskaloosa, where he’s been employed for over 40 years.
Walling said he’s enjoyed his time on the council for the past eight years.
During his run for office, Walling said he would only run for two terms on the council, “but through some delays in getting things done we wanted, I decided to run for a third term.”
“I love Oskaloosa. My hearts here and I think I’m helping,” added Walling.
When it comes to the future vision for Oskaloosa, roads and wastewater are some of those projects that Walling sees as essential to focus on for the foreseeable future.
On the subject of codes in Oskaloosa, Walling describes them as his “pet peeve.”
Walling uses his construction background when debating the codes, and he feels as though he’s been able to inform his fellow council members on the subject. “They’ve listened, they haven’t always voted with me.”
“There’s got to be some common sense and backoff on that,” said Walling when it comes to adopting codebooks as a whole.
Walling says that people should vote for him because even though he’s made some mistakes, “On a whole, I think we’ve done it right. The group has worked real closely together.”
“I like to think on my feet. I like common sense. I don’t just go along with the norm, and I really truly love Oskaloosa, and I want the best for Oskaloosa. And that’s how I look at everything I do,” said Walling in closing.
