Trail Tram Tours Now Offered On Rec Trail

Trail Tram Tours now available

Oskaloosa, Iowa – As the Executive Director of the Mahaska Community Recreation Foundation (MCRF) I wanted to take a moment to thank the MCRF Board for developing such a wonderful trail in our community. Because of their overwhelming support and development for our community we have and are still developing a 15 mile route around our neighborhoods. It has been my observation that its users grow each year. If you chance to take a walk on the trail, you will come upon more and more citizens comfortably using the trial for walking or riding.

Perhaps you are a walker who thinks “What a joy to listen to the sounds of summer,” or “What lovely areas of the community I can see walking along the trail” or “ How happy I am to have a place to ride my bike for health and fitness!”

But what if you were one who could not say those things because you were not able to walk or ride or enjoy this lovely trail. Well, no more. TRAIL TRAM TOURS are now something offered for free along the trail. This is the latest step that the MCRF Board has taken to overcome barriers and make the trail accessible to every community citizen.

Two trail trams were donated to MCRF for the purpose of trail tours for those who are unable to walk or ride on their own. Volunteer drivers are available to give the tours and MCRF will make a reservation for you or your group with just one phone call (641) 672-2499. The tours started in fall of last year and 31 tours were given to nursing home patients, church seniors groups and those who called in to enjoy a tour.

I once heard someone say “We need two things for the trail: growth of the trail system where viable, and for multiple generations to embrace spending time together in the great outdoors of our community.” Thank you MCRF board for making this possible for all community citizens. This is just one more tool to help people appreciate the unique beauty and recreational opportunities of this community. Let me just say to all of you, the trial is well loved and appreciated and I for one am grateful to have such a trail right on our doorstep.
