Statesmen Score High at Iowa State Dance Competition
Des Moines–The William Penn competitive dance team put up big scores as it competed at the Iowa State Dance Competition last week.
WPU had its highest score of 90.75 points in Pom, finishing fourth out of eight programs. In Hip Hop, the navy and gold were second out of five teams with 87.88 points.
Additionally, William Penn took fourth out of five squads in Jazz with 87.00 points.
Team members included Elizabeth Blake (Fr., Litchfield Park, Ariz., Psychology), Jamison Coffey (Fr., Platteville, Wis., Entrepreneurship and Business Management), Kate Coley (Jr., Streator, Ill., Psychology), Kylie Coley (Jr., Streator, Ill., Business Management), Bianca Cooney (Sr., Little Rock, Ark., Psychology), Emily Garcia (Jr., Davenport, Iowa, Sports Management), Amerie Hemphill (Fr., Clinton, Ill., Kinesiology), Mackenzie Monahan (Sr., Churdan, Iowa, Human Services), Abby Pierson (Fr., Brooklyn, Iowa, Human Services), and Payton Wiley (Fr., Douds, Iowa, Elementary Education).
“State was an amazing first step into our competition season this year,” Head Coach Abby Reynolds said. “We worked countless hours, we faced adversity changing our routines the week before, and overall, we worked as a team, which definitely showed on the competition floor.”
“I knew I wanted to push the limits with these routines and this team embraced it,” Reynolds added. “I could not have asked for better athletes and assistant coach to take on the ISDTA Championships with. Hardware came home and we are continuing to build our legacy! I cannot wait for NAIA season starting in January!”
