Statesmen of the Week: Donovan Rodriguez and Crystal Shaw

Oskaloosa–Men’s basketball player Donovan Rodriguez (Jr., Philadelphia, Pa., Sports Management) and women’s track and field athlete Crystal Shaw (Fr., Austin, Texas, Applied Computer Science) have been named the Statesmen of the Week for the week of December 1-7.

Rodriguez lifted William Penn to a 92-90 win over Missouri Valley last Saturday. In the win, the junior was 8-for-15 from the field (7-for-14 3-PT) en route to a team-best 23 points. He also tallied three rebounds and one assist. His seven three-pointers are the most by a Statesmen player in a single contest so far this year.

Shaw started her collegiate career by crushing two school records as well as qualifying for nationals at the St. Ambrose Frigid Bee Opener last Saturday. The freshman won the long jump competition with a school-record mark of 18-6.5. That effort also eclipsed the NAIA’s provisional standard.

In the triple jump competition, Shaw was second with a new program record of 35-8.75.
