Stanton First-Team All-MCC Once More, Four Named Honorable Mentions
Oskaloosa–Five members of the Lady Statesmen volleyball team were recognized for strong 2010 campaigns as the all-Midwest Collegiate Conference teams were announced Monday.
Outside hitter Emily Stanton (Sr., Oskaloosa, Oskaloosa HS) was one of 14 players to be named to the first team, while right side hitter Morgan Bailey (Sr., Oskaloosa, Oskaloosa HS), libero Caitlin Hadden (Sr., Oskaloosa, Oskaloosa HS), setter Krista Pettit (Sr., Grundy Center, Grundy Center HS), and middle hitter Brittany Rohling (Jr., Thayer, Kan., Neosho CC) were part of the 14-player honorable-mention squad.
The five helped Penn to a 25-21 record (4-4 MCC) and an appearance in the MCC Tournament Finals.
Stanton ends her career as a four-time first-teamer, while her trio of teammates were all honored for the first time in their careers.
Stanton recorded 401 kills with a .218 attack percentage. She also managed 24 assists, 34 aces, 639 digs, and 85 blocks. The senior had a season-high 14 kills on three separate occasions. She reached the 400-kill mark in all four of her collegiate seasons.
Stanton goes down as the best hitter in school history, holding program records for career kills (1,819) and attacks (4,974). She also ranks in the top ten in digs (2nd, 2,232), aces (5th, 136), and attack percentage (7th, .241).
Bailey finished her navy and gold career with her best season yet, leading the Lady Statesmen in kills (416) and attack percentage (.268). She also tallied 60 assists, 49 aces, 139 digs, and 85 blocks. The senior had a season-high 17 kills against Clarke on October 12.
A one-time MCC Player of the Week this fall, the senior departs the program ranking in the top ten in aces (2nd, 190), kills (3rd, 1335), attacks (3rd, 3,685), attack percentage (8th, .239), and blocks (8th, 287).
Hadden, a three-time Libero of the Week in 2010, set a school single-season record with 1,020 digs in addition to three kills, 30 assists, and a team-high 57 aces. The senior had a season-high 38 digs against Carroll (Wis.) on September 18.
Hadden leaves Penn as the all-time leader in digs with 3,060 and ranks fourth with 143 career aces.
Pettit was a solid contributer in the two-setter formation, posting a team-high 796 assists with 35 kills, 37 aces, 452 digs, and four block assists. The senior had a season-high 33 assists against Bethel (Ind.) on October 16.
Pettit ranks high in both career assists (5th, 2065) and digs (6th, 1,270).
Rohling was a major presence in the middle during her inaugural Lady Statesmen season. The junior recorded 330 kills with a .180 attack percentage. She also tallied 15 assists, two aces, 97 digs, and a team-best 168 blocks. The junior had a season-high 13 kills twice.
Devon Jensen of Grand View was named Player of the Year for the second-straight season, while her teammates Paige Harris and Megan Higgins claimed Setter of the Year and Newcomer of the Year laurels, respectively. Viterbo’s Jordan Blaken was tabbed as the MCC’s Libero of the Year, while her coach Ryan DeLong picked up Coach of the Year accolades.
