Oskaloosa, Iowa – After a month of work, including a lengthy work session, the Oskaloosa Planning and Zoning Commission sent its recommendation for an updated code covering the parking of recreational vehicles within Oskaloosa.

The board’s recommendations included adding parking surfaces of gravel, crushed stone and brick to the already mandated hard surfaces of concrete and asphalt.

The board recommended that the city remove length restrictions from the code. This was decided during the work session because of the DOT limitations that would already govern the length.

Language will help ensure that the property owner keeps the property clean, and that the RV will not be hooked up to sewer services.

A setback distance has been asked for in the code. A 20 foot distance from the back of the curb to promote safety is being asked for.

The meeting had 25 area residents in attendance, many of whom thanked the commission for their work on updating the code.

The next meeting of the Oskaloosa City Council is August 15th, where the proposed changes could be considered. If approved, the measure would have to go through three readings.
