Oskaloosa. Pauline “Posey” Harper, 89, of Oskaloosa, died Friday, August 12, 2011, at her home in Oskaloosa. She was born June 22, 1922, at Barnes City, Iowa, the daughter of Harley D. and Eva Barnes Riggs. She graduated from the Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1940, she then went on to earn her teaching degree from William Penn College. On June 6, 1947 she was united in marriage to Eugene F. “Gene” Harper, he died October 10, 1986. She taught school for many years at Gibson, Thornburg, and Eddyville. She also worked as a clerk at Eddyville Sale Barn, Harper and Kool Auctions, and lastly for Kool Auctions. She was a member St. Paul’s Congregational United Church of Christ, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Elks. She enjoyed playing cards.

She is survived by her son and his wife: Jerry and Sheri Harper of Oskaloosa; a daughter: Mary Stout of Oskaloosa; four grandchildren Amy and Jason Harper, Andrew Hall, and Jennifer (& Mike) Harwood; six great grandchildren: C.J., Kaitlynn, Skylynn, Lisa, Jase, and Skylar; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a son: Steve Harper; a great grandson: Matthew Harper; and a brother: Monte Riggs.

Graveside memorial services and burial for Posey Harper will be held Tuesday, August 12, 2011, at 2 p.m. in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa with Reverend Elizabeth Colton officiating. A procession will form at 1:40 p.m. on Tuesday at the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa for those wishing to go to the cemetery. As was her wish she has been cremated and no visitation is planned. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the St. Paul Congregational United Church of Christ.
