Oskaloosa Schools End Year With Awards Ceremonies

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa Schools ended the year handing out awards to various students, ranging from perfect attendance to physical education awards and grants.
The Oskaloosa Elementary School was awarded a $1,000 grand prize for the ‘Go The Distance Day’ that was held on May 4. They were selected the winner out of 271 other schools, with over 77,000 kids participating among all of them. The money will be used in the Elementary School PE Department and also school wellness.
Live Healthy Iowa Traci Ketley was on hand to present the check to Jennifer Peterson, OES K-5 PE Teacher.

Special recognition was also given to Joseph Schipper for having Perfect Attendance for his entire elementary career. He didn’t miss a day of school from Kindergarten through 5th grade.

Over at Oskaloosa Middle School, shortly after noon, the 7th and 8th Grade Orchestra played a few selections for their classmates before outgoing OMS teacher Doug Gibson presented the Band Awards.
OMS Band Awards presented May 23, 2012:
- Bill Van Devender Outstanding Musicianship Award – Concert Band was presented to Bailey Blythe
- Bill Van Devender Outstanding Musicianship Award – Jazz Band was presented to Matthew Presley
- All-Star Scale Club 7th Grade Band: Ashley Brockman – Percussion; John Hammes – Trumpet; Willis Knox- Tuba; Hunter Ruggles, – Percussion; Nickolas Schaffner – Percussion
- All-Star Scale Club 8th Grade Band: Bailey Blythe – Flute; Misaki Kaito – Flute; Matt Presley – Trumpet; Paige Watters – Percussion
Also handed out were Character Counts Awards.
6th Grade recipients for 2012 were:
