Oskaloosa, Iowa – The position for city council at large has two open positions this election cycle, and four individuals are seeking those positions. The incumbents Scottie Moore and Tom Walling are being challenged by Wyatt Russell and Charlie Comfort.

Scottie Moore was a teacher in the Oskaloosa School District for 30 years and has now served on the Oskaloosa City Council for eight years.

When it comes to her desire to run for city council, Moore says she has a passion for Oskaloosa, “and I want to make it as good a community as I can.”

“My passion for Oskaloosa is to serve the community in the best capacity I can,” added Moore.

When it comes to Moore’s vision for Oskaloosa, “I hope 20 years down the line, someone running for city council, sitting here in this spot would say, this is what we’ve done, we’ve made Oskaloosa a town that offers all the amenities that would keep and attract people here. My vision for Oskaloosa is people want to live here and that we offer them economic opportunities to make a good living.”

A talking point throughout the campaign has landed on the codes in Oskaloosa. Moore doesn’t see the codes causing any problems with the city growing, citing that 133 units have been built in Oskaloosa.

Moore says there are mechanisms in place to help builders come to Oskaloosa. “We want builders to come.”

Moore has expressed her desire to complete projects started during her time on the council, which includes improvements to roads, housing, and the early childhood development and recreation center. “There’s a lot of projects going on I feel I owe a commitment to and would like four more years to bring them to fruition.”

“I think we have a wonderful community and I’m very proud of our community, and I hope we will continue to grow and thrive as we have in the last eight years,” said Moore in conclusion.
