Kenny passed away Friday morning at his home in Oskaloosa with his wife by his side at the age of 70 years, 5 months and 13 days of age.

Kenneth Roger Oglevie, son of Benton and Pauline Self Oglevie, was born June 13, 1940 in Ames, Iowa. The family moved to Des Moines when Kenny was a young child and Kenny attended Kirkwood Grade School and North High School. Following his education he worked repairing lawn mowers and at “Fad of the Month Club”. Kenny married Betty Eileen Fynaardt February 16, 1963 at the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa. They made their home on Betty’s parent’s farm, where Kenny farmed and did snow removal in the winter. Kenny attended Farmer’s Night School, where he learned to weld. In 1986, their home was destroyed by fire- Kenny and Betty turned this tragedy into an opportunity – they bought their present home on Bill Bone Drive and Kenny went to Foley Belsaw School in Kansas City for one week and then started his own saw sharpening business. In 1987, Kenny was injured in a construction accident – again, Kenny took adversity and turned it into a positive. Kenny had not finished high school, so he returned to Indian Hills Community College, where he learned to read for the first time. Kenny and Betty worked as a team in the saw sharpening business and after a few years Kenny had established himself as an expert in his field and the business was thriving. Kenny also worked as a welder at Pamco and Iowa Wood Preservers; in 1997 Kenny was hired by Vermeer Manufacturing as a baler welder, a job he thoroughly enjoyed – he was named employee of the month of July 1998. His health required Kenny to retire from Vermeer in 2003, but Kenny continued to work in his shop, sharpening saws until the fall of 2010. Kenny attended the First Church of the Nazarene in Oskaloosa. When his son was young, he helped with the Caravan Group of first grade boys. He served as an usher and was a member of the Prime Timers at his church as well. Kenny was a past member of the Farm Bureau. Kenny’s passion was his work, but he also enjoyed boating, trips to Branson with his family and trips to Tennessee to see his daughter and grandsons. Kenny was an avid baseball and football fan and enjoyed fixing jigsaw puzzles.

Kenny’s family includes his wife, Betty of Oskaloosa; a son, Mark Oglevie of Oskaloosa; a daughter, Karen (Bill) Richards of Chattanooga, TN and two grandsons: Austin and Jacob Richards.

Kenny was preceded in death by his parents and his mother and father-in-law.

Memorial contributions may be made to Pella Comfort House.
