Karen Parker, 68, of Burlington died Monday, December 27, 2010 at the Mahaska Health Partnership in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Funeral arrangements will be held at a later date. Karen Lee Parker was born October 21, 1942 in Des Moines, Iowa the daughter of Donald James Hyler and Izetta Eva Baker. She was a 1960 graduate of East High School in Des Moines. Karen later attended college in California where she received a degree in Nursing. Over the years Karen has worked at Montezuma Nursing and Rehab, Fountain West Nursing Home in Des Moines, Friendship Manor in Grinnell and most recently for Casey’s in Des Moines and Burlington. She enjoyed playing bingo and card games with her friends. She attended the New Hope Church of Burlington and led an exercise course for the residents of the Freidenheim Apartments.
Karen is survived by two daughters, Dawn (Paul) Smith of What Cheer and DeeDee (Truman) Thompson of Laughlin, NV; a step son, Roy (Holly) Parker of IL; a brother, Perry (Mary) Hyler of Arcadia, CA; a sister, Donna (Ralph) Hoffman of Clive; her three grandsons, Nick and Tyler Griffith and Jayden Smith. Her life was also blessed by a great granddaughter, Alex Jo Griffith and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, T.J. Holmes.
