Iowa Cattlemen’s Association Holds Meeting At Nelson Pioneer Farm
Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Iowa Cattlemen’s Association held its Southeast Regional meeting starting at 11:00 a.m. at the Nelson Pioneer Farms in Oskaloosa. The Smoked Brisket lunch and meeting was scheduled to conclude around 3:00 p.m.
“We’ve got 4 regions across the state, and what we do, it’s a membership based organization and so in each region we elect some of our leaders as well as take that opportunity when we get together to talk about and discuss some policy out there as well as work on and discuss some educational standpoint for the farmer feeders that we have across the state,” says Matt Deppe of the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association.
“The Iowa Cattlemen’s Association is mainly the voice of Cattlemen across the state. We talk about any type of policy or regulatory issue or challenges. We’re the ones that stand up with the Cattlemen and make sure that our voice is heard, and ensure there’s a positive production environment there for the cattle feeders across the state. Few people know, but the cattle industry in Iowa contributes around $5.1 billion to the states economy. We feel it’s a really important commodity across our state and helps out our economy,” continued Matt Deppe
“You know, it’s really a great opportunity. Opportunities exist in the cattle industry right now in our state. We talk about feeding and using corn based bi products like distillers, grains like from ethanol production, and have the infrastructure we have across our state, there’s really some good opportunities there. We’re seeing folks get more involved in the industry at a younger adult type age, so that’s really exciting,” Deppe said of the growth seen in the cattle industry.
The Iowa Cattlemen’s Association represents about 9,500 beef-producing families and associated companies dedicated to the future of Iowa’s beef industry. ICA’s mission is “Grow Iowa’s beef business through advocacy, leadership and education.”
