Grinnell players sweep MWC honors
GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College athletes have swept the Midwest Conference Softball Performer of the Week honors.
Maggie Remus ’18 was named MWC Pitcher of the Week, while Darice Wheeler ’21 was tabbed as Position Player of the Week.
Remus, from St. Charles, Ill. (Saint Francis Prep), was simply dazzling for the Pioneers on their spring break trip by going 2-0 with a miniscule 0.78 ERA. She struck out six in that span as Grinnell won six of its seven games in Florida.
Wheeler, who hails from Evanston, Ill. (Cushing Academy) and pitches and plays second base, has displayed herself as a force early in her collegiate career by already tying Grinnell’s season record for homers with six during the team’s spring break trip. She hit .458 to go along with the six round-trippers, going 11-of-24 at the plate with four doubles, 13 RBIs and seven runs scored. She helped her cause pitching-wise, winning both decisions and striking out 15 in 17-1/3 innings of work.
