Oskaloosa, Iowa – The position for city council at large has two open positions this election cycle, and four individuals are seeking those positions. The incumbents Scottie Moore and Tom Walling are being challenged by Wyatt Russell and Charlie Comfort.

Comfort has lived in Oskaloosa nearly his entire life, except for approximately a year when he lived in northern Iowa working at a newspaper in Independence.

Comfort graduated from Oskaloosa High School and William Penn University.

Comfort currently is a member of the Oskaloosa Board of Adjustment and is also a former Oskaloosa School Board member. He served on the school board until his employment necessitated him to resign.

Comfort said he’s running for city council because he believes there needs to be some “young blood” on the council, “so I’m running because I think we need a different perspective and I also think we need some younger leaders to step up. Ultimately, I’m going to be living with the decisions that are made over the next 50 or 60 years.”

Comfort has been advocating for a more aggressive plan to market the Oskaloosa community to outside companies in an attempt to draw and attract new business. Comfort believes that if the infrastructure is in place, and the city is business friendly, “You will at least land something, it may not be as big as Facebook, but you will land something big into Oskaloosa.”

When it comes to asking for the voters support, Comfort says, “I don’t believe there’s any one issue that only the current city council can address or that only the current city council can tackle the issues coming up in the next few years. I believe I am the voice that Oskaloosa needs as they start looking at a different perspective and a new vision for the community. I will provide that.”

In full disclosure, prior to deciding to run for city council, Charlie Comfort had recently been a paid stringer for Oskaloosa News. We have attempted to provide an equal field without bias for all candidates who are running for office.
