A message from Osky News

I wanted to take this time to thank everyone that has become a fan of ours on Facebook and reads our website. It is a great honor and privilege to help provide news and information to the people of Oskaloosa, Mahaska County and our surrounding neighbors.

Since we have had a large influx of new people join, I thought taking a moment to let everyone know that Osky News does need your help.

We really need more writers. I know the terror that comes with that prospect. I am not a writer myself, and my grammar is horrible and I misspell just about everything on the planet. So if your concerned about being “good”, don’t, as once you start the process you will become more comfortable as time goes along. As with anything, that first step takes the most courage.

We can also use more photographers. Once again, you don’t have to have the most expensive camera, point and shoots take wonderful pictures most of the time. People love seeing what their friends and neighbors are up to and there is no quicker way than by a picture.

I am also asking for everyone’s help in sending in info on events, cancellations, accidents, fires (please stay out of emergency personnels way) or just about anything you believe is important to those around us. As you can tell from my ramblings so far, we are really short staffed. It can be as easy as asking your childs coach, civic leader or group leader to email us stats and/or info, the same they do to any other media outlet so that it’s shared with even more people, especially those like you that read Osky News.

Here’s the really hard part for me. Osky News has been a labor of love to this point, and honestly it would continue that way. But buying equipment (think computers, cameras and video), supplies (web hosting, phone bills), gas, food at events (coffee at fires) and just many things that seem to nickel and dime a person while away from “home”. With that said, we could use your help in this way as well. We have set up a Donate to Oskynews.org button with Paypal on the website, and honestly every bit helps to defray the costs of bringing the news to the community. We don’t charge a fee for the site, nor do we ask for a fee, it’s entirely up to the readers to establish a value of the service they receive.

With that all said, we at Osky News want to thank everyone once again for all their continued support.Your kind words on Facebook and in emails have really helped us continue our efforts and brightened our spirits when your frozen or just feel too tired to want to head for the next story.
