Late Spring Lawn Advice

TotalScape Lawn Care
We are well into spring, even though the thermometer hasn’t shown that. If you have been working in your lawn, hopefully the early work is complete.
May and June is the time of year that we seem to spend the most time getting the lawn looking green and vibrant for the summer ahead.
Mowing should be in full swing by now. A few things to remember when you are mowing should be the height you cut the lawn. Cutting it at a height of 3.5” to 3.75” will help give the lawn that deep green color you want. Cutting higher tends to give the grass plant more root depth. This in turn promotes a healthier plant. The second is to keep your cutting blades sharp; this gives a clean cut to the grass blade. A dull blade tends to rip the grass blade and open it up to disease problems and browning on the tips.
Weeds begin to start their growing cycle now with the warm weather coming on. This is when you want to begin to treat those weeds such as dandelions, clover, creeping Charlie, and wild violet. Using a contact herbicide containing 2-4-D to help control these weeds is where you want to begin.
Lastly, another application of fertilizer high in nitrogen will help maintain a dark green color as well help thicken the lawn. These suggestions will help your lawn look great and remain healthy and strong going into the summer season.
