Addison, Ill.–A solid showing landed the William Penn women’s bowling team in the top half of the field as it competed at the XBowling Intercollegiate Team Sectionals Saturday and Sunday.

The Statesmen placed ninth out of 18 teams with a tally of 11,442 in 64 Baker games. Wisconsin-Whitewater won the sectional with 12,626 pins, while Bowling Green (Ohio), Robert Morris (Ill.), and St. Francis (Ill.) also advanced. William Penn finished 469 pins from getting in the top four and moving onto nationals.

After sitting in ninth after the first block of 16 games, the Statesmen moved up to seventh at the halfway point, but could never get any closer to the qualifying group.

Six individuals also put their best foot forward at Friday’s six-game singles tournament. Kelsey Johnson (Sr., Montgomery, Ill., Elementary Education) and Stephanie Adams (So., Souris, Manitoba, Business Management) were both in contention, but came up just a bit short as only four rollers advanced to the national championships. Johnson placed eighth with a 201.2 average and was only 43 pins from the last slot, while Adams finished 10th with a 198.5 clip (59 pins from fourth place).

MacKenzie Boyd (So., Knoxville, Iowa, Biology) also averaged 179.8 pins, while Montana Pence (So., Stronghurst, Ill., Elementary Education) was at 172.3. Cybil Lennie (Fr., Ottumwa, Iowa, Undecided), at 168.0, and Jocelyn Beaver (Fr., Knoxville, Iowa, Business Management), at 158.0, competed Friday as well.
