Oskaloosa–The Statesmen men’s bowling team has again earned a trip to the postseason as it will compete at the USBC Intercollegiate Team Sectionals in two weeks.
The Statesmen, ranked #18 on the collegebowling.com website, will travel to Fairview Heights, Ill. for the 18-team tournament that runs from March 9-10 at St. Clair Bowl. The tournament is a Baker format consisting of 64 total games–32 each day.
It is William Penn’s third sectionals trip in its four-year existence on the lanes.
The other sectionals will be held at Allentown, Pa., Las Vegas, Nev., and Smyrna, Tenn. Top-ranked Robert Morris (Ill.) joins the navy and gold in Fairview Heights.
#2 Wichita State (Kan.) tops the Las Vegas group, while #3 Morehead State (Ky.) will make the jaunt north to Allentown. #4 Lindenwood (Mo.) is the top squad in the Smyrna sectional.
The remainder of the Fairview Heights field includes: #7 Calumet-St. Joseph (Ind.), #11 Saginaw Valley State (Mich.), #16 St. Ambrose, #21 Newman (Kan.), #30 Nebraska, #32 Wright State (Ohio), #35 Vincennes CC, #38 Minnesota State-Mankato, #41 Winona State (Minn.), #49 Louisville (Ky.), #55 Bethel (Tenn.), #56 Michigan State, #63 Ball State (Ind.), #64 Bowling Green (Ky.), #67 Rock Valley CC (Ill.), #69 Ashford, #74 Iowa Central CC, and #80 North Dakota State.
The Statesmen will be paced by Midwest Collegiate Conference Player of the Year Cameron Foster (Jr., West Jordan, Utah, Business Management), who is currently ranked #12 in the nation.
Sectional assignments are based on Team Ranking System points. Fields are determined by taking geographic distance, economics, and field size into consideration. To sort teams evenly throughout each sectional, the USBC attempts to place no more than two of the top eight schools and no more than four of the top 16 schools in a sectional based on final TRS totals.
The top four teams from each of the four sectionals advance to the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships, which will be held April 18-20 at Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln, Neb.
In addition, the four sites will also host the USBC Intercollegiate Singles Sectionals on March 8 with individuals bowling six games.
The top 24 men and the top 16 women–top four from each sectional plus eight additional men based on size of field at each location–advance to the national singles championship on April 15-16 in Lincoln.
