William Penn Drops Opener of CCSJ Tourney 4-1 to Marygrove

William Penn Women's Athletics

Whiting, Ind.–The Lady Statesmen soccer team was efficient with its attempts Saturday, but unfortunately they were few and far between in a 4-1 loss to Marygrove (Mich.) in non-conference action at the Calumet-St. Joseph Crimson Wave Tournament.

William Penn (0-2) had just two shots, compared to 16 for its foe, and will now play in the tourney’s consolation game against Calumet-St. Joseph Sunday at 9 a.m.

The Mustangs scored in the 19th and 37th minutes of the first stanza and extended the edge to three goals at the 55:18 mark. Shortly thereafter, Lauren Terrell (Sr., Chandler, Ariz., Chandler HS) put a shot past the Marygrove keeper to make it 3-1 in the 59th minute. The goal is her first of the season.

The squad from Michigan closed it out late, though, with a final tally at the 82:16 juncture.

Laura Gentry (So., Fruitland, Idaho, Fruitland HS) collected three saves in the loss.
