William Penn Campus Comes Back To Life
Oskaloosa, Iowa – The William Penn University Campus sprang to life this week, as the 2018-19 academic year got underway.
Nik Rule, Athletic Director at William Penn, said that the first day of class was on Monday, August 20, 2018, but welcome week activities for students began on Saturday, the 18th.
Student-athletes have been on campus since the 4th and 5th of August.
“We have some cool things we’re doing this year,” said Rule about all the events taking place on campus this year.
There is already a multitude of sporting events happening on campus, and then continuing all year long. “We’ve got great student-athletes that are having as much success as we’ve ever had before on the field of play, but we’ve also had more success than we’ve ever had in the classroom.”
“In addition to that, I think one thing that’s really important is that we have a leadership speak series where we bring leaders to campus, that the community can come and listen to,” said Rule.
Also highlighted was the fine arts department who offer theater productions during the year, as well as concerts “Which the public are certainly welcome to come to,” added Rule.
Rule hopes to see the community at the many different events hosted by William Penn in the coming year, “because we’re all part of the community.”
On Thursday, the freshmen class took part in the freshman convocation. This event is an opportunity for the entire class to be together in one spot, something that will happen once again four years from now, when they step across the stage to graduate.
Rule spoke about the importance for the freshman attending the convocation. There, they were told about the success they the students could reach with the help of the William Penn community. “We’re a community here willing to help you, but success comes from within and what are you going to do to set yourself up to be successful and utilize the people around you and utilize the people that want to help.”
“We really invite the community to come out and support our students in whatever extracurricular activity they are a part of,” added Rule.
