Dunbar Sacks Way to Defensive POW Honor
Oskaloosa–Brandon Dunbar (Jr., Houston, Texas, Booker T. Washington HS) spent his Saturday night harassing the opposing offense and for his efforts he was named Midwest League Defensive Player of the Week announced by the league office earlier this week.
Dunbar helped #8 nationally-ranked William Penn (1-0, 1-0 MWL) to a 42-7 season-opening victory against Iowa Wesleyan last Saturday.
The junior recorded seven tackles and two sacks for a loss of 18 yards. He also recovered a fumble in the win as the Tigers were limited to 223 yards, including only 36 after halftime.
The award is the first of the year for the football program. The Statesmen tallied 11 POW honors in 2010.
Stobart Claims Local Amateur Crown
Oskaloosa–Sebastian Stobart (Sr., Harare, Zimbabwe, St. Georges College) concluded a strong summer with another impressive accomplishment.
Stobart recently won the Oskaloosa Men’s Amateur held at the par-72 Oskaloosa Golf Course with a final score of 111 (72-39), holding off runnerup Steve Hicks by one stroke.
He birdied holes 3, 8, 10, and 12 in his first round and holes 14 and 15 in the final back nine.
“The course was set up extremely tough so I did not score as well as I had hoped,” Stobart said. “It is a great honor to win this tournament. I want to thank Oskaloosa Golf for allowing us to play in their men’s amateur.”
Stobart tied the OGC course record with a 65 back on August 4.
