Crete, Neb.–The women took the top headlines Saturday as the William Penn track and field teams competed at the Doane Fred Beile Classic.

Tarah Alexander (Jr., Cedar, Iowa, Undecided) and Raveen Rhone (Sr., Los Angeles, Calif., Biology) each broke school records, while Cornelius McCastle (So., McKinney, Texas, Industrial Technology) won his event on the men’s side.

Alexander nearly missed the NAIA’s ‘B’ standard in the 800-meter run with a runner-up time of 2:21.57, while Rhone crushed her own program mark with a triple jump of 35-6.75 that helped her to fourth. WPU’s 800 mark had stood since 1988.

Meaghan Foster (Jr., Centerville, Iowa, Undecided) was twice in the top ten, headed by finishing seventh in the shot put at 41-3. She was also tenth in the weight throw at 48-6.

Distance runners Deja Lewis (So., Spring, Texas, Psychology) (9th in the 3,000-meter run, 11:48.66) and Addison Kepner (Jr., Cincinnati, Iowa, Biology) (tenth in the one-mile run, 5:52.07) were also high finishers.

McCastle won the men’s high jump at 6-8.75, while two of his teammates posted a pair of top-ten finishes. Romel Marzette (Jr., Oskaloosa, Iowa) was fifth in the 60-meter dash (7.06 seconds) and seventh in the triple jump (43-5.25). Thrower Derek Seddon (So., Knoxville, Iowa, Physical Education) was ninth in the shot put (46-3.25) and tenth in the weight throw (49-1).

Stepfon Williams (So., St. Louis, Mo., Industrial Technology) had a strong outing in the 400 as well, crossing the line in sixth at 51.58 seconds.

Next Up: William Penn travels to Sterling, Ill., next Friday and Saturday to compete in the Midwest Collegiate Conference Championships.
