Stobart Leads William Penn at Own Event

Moravia–Seb Stobart (Sr., Harare, Zimbabwe, Business Management) rebounded from a poor first tournament to place in the top five as the Statesmen golf team hosted the Iowa Intercollegiate Thursday and Friday.

William Penn placed seventh out of eight teams at the par-72 Preserve Golf Course. Grand View won the team title with a six-under 570 (279-291), while AIB was a distant second at 588 (301-287).

The Vikings swept top honors as Mike Slavin topped the field with a six-under 138 (66-72), holding off teammate David Walter by four strokes.

Stobart posted a solid score of 74 Thursday, but then bettered that by breaking par on Friday with a one-under 71. His final tally of 145 tied for fourth overall out of 42 competitors.

Adriaan de Villiers (Sr., Akasia, South Africa, Industrial Technology) was next, tying for 21st at 153 (75-78). Evan Thomas (Sr., Oskaloosa, Physical Education) then finished at 166 (81-85) to place 36th, while Byron Lindeque (So., Boksburg, South Africa, General Accounting) tied for 37th at 173 (88-85). Ben Roberts (Fr., Albia, Industrial Technology) rounded out the lineup in 39th place at 175 (94-81).

Next: The Statesmen travel to Marshalltown to compete in the AIB Fall Invitational next Friday and Saturday. The first day will be contested at Elmwood Country Club, while Saturday’s round will be played at the American Legion Golf Course.
