Oskaloosa–The Statesmen softball and men’s golf programs both excelled during the 2012-2013 school years and their efforts netted NAIA Scholar Team recognition last week.

A total of 898 programs received the laurel, highlighted by the Lee (Tenn.) women’s golf team being named Scholar Team of the Year after posting a combined 3.93 Grade Point Average.

The WPU softball team, skippered by Mike Christner, owned a 3.26 GPA, while the men’s golf squad, led by Buster Albertson, finished with a 3.01 GPA.

For a team to earn NAIA Scholar Team award, it must have a minimum 3.0 grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution. The team GPA includes all eligible varsity student-athletes.
