Shelly Long, 51 of Montezuma, went to be with her heavenly Father Friday evening, February 13, 2015, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. Shelly Ann Long was born on December 30, 1963, to Charles and Linda (Taylor) Boeding.

Shelly graduated from Montezuma Community School with the class of 1982 and Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa in 1983 with an Administrative Assistant Degree.

On June 9, 1984, Shelly was united in marriage to Greg Long at the Presbyterian Church in Montezuma. To this union two daughters were born, Jessica and Emily.

During her life, Shelly worked at Norwest Card Services in Des Moines and Pioneer Hybrid International at Hedrick. They moved back to Montezuma in 1997 to raise their family and she worked at the Peoples Savings Bank, A-1, Air Gun Express, and Trade Show Productions, organizing these from her home. In 2006, Shelly began working at the Montezuma Community School as the Elementary School Secretary. She loved her time at the school and truly enjoyed all of the school kids she was able to see every day.

Shelly was an amazing daughter, wife, mother and friend. She was on the organizing committee for RAGBRAI when they came through Montezuma.

Shelly enjoyed spending time on the farm, gardening, quilting, working out and staying in shape. Faith and family was also very important to her. Shelly attended the Third Reformed Church in Pella.

Shelly is survived by her parents, Chuck and Linda Boeding; her husband, Greg Long of Montezuma; her daughters, Jessica Long and Emily Long, both of Montezuma; her brother, Justin (& Jayne) Boeding of Red Wing, Minnesota; her sister, Wendy (& Dan) Dierks of Traer, Iowa; her niece and nephews: Eli Boeding, Evie Boeding, Adam Swearengin and Ben Swearengin; her father and mother-in-law, Gene and Barb Long; and her sister-in-law Sheryl (& Rick) Swearengin of Kansas City.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents; and her brother-in-law, Kevin Long.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am Friday, February 20, 2015 at the Community Hope Church in Montezuma with Pastor Kevin Korver officiating.
Burial will follow in the Pleasant Township Cemetery at Ewart.
Visitation will begin after 12:00 pm Thursday, February 19, 2015 at the Community Hope Church with the family present from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.

As the family’s wishes, instead of flowers, memorials may be directed in Shelly’s name to The Montezuma Community School elementary scholarship or special project fund; or to The University of Iowa Foundation Melanoma Research Fund by donating at their website or leaving your donation at the funeral home.
