Scott Rurup, age 53, of Oskaloosa, passed away on Monday, February 15, 2021 at his home in Oskaloosa, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on May 3, 1967, the son of Darcy and Joan (Wefer) Rurup in Perry, Iowa.

Scott attended the Eddyville High School and graduated with the Class of 1985. After high school, Scott moved to Arizona and worked various jobs until returning to Iowa in 1988.

On June 20, 1991, he was united in marriage to Debra Bruch at St John’s Lutheran Church in Oskaloosa. To this union 2 children were born, Benjamin and Luc.

Scott worked at Vermeer Corp. in Pella. He was very proud to have worked for the company for 32 years and recently retired in 2020 after 32 years.

Scott was an avid fisherman, especially walleye, and spent most of his spare time down at Rathbun Lake. He also enjoyed hunting, boating, hosting fish fries, camping and teaching the children at the campground to fish. His real joy in life was spending time with his family and friends.

Scott is survived by his wife, Debra Rurup of Oskaloosa; his children: Benjamin (& Joann) Rurup of St. Francis, Minnesota, and Luc Rurup of Oskaloosa; his mother, Joan Wefer of Oskaloosa; and a sister, Tammy (& John) Longcor of St. Roberts, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his father, Darcy Rurup; and his grandparents, Laurence and Dorothy Wefer and Leland and Fern Rurup.

As per Scott’s wishes, his body has been cremated and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Scott Rurup Memorial Fund that will go towards a memorial that will be placed down at Rathbun Lake in Scott’s honor.
