Sara’s Quicky Delivery: Revolutionizing Convenience in Oskaloosa
Oskaloosa, IA — In a time when convenience and efficiency are paramount, Sara Roach has stepped up to fill a unique niche in Oskaloosa with her innovative business, Sara’s Quickie Delivery. Founded in January 2023, this local delivery service has quickly grown, providing residents with an alternative to larger delivery platforms.
Sara Roach, the driving force behind Sara’s Quickie Delivery, started her journey as a delivery driver three years ago. It was through this experience that she noticed a significant demand for a more personalized and comprehensive delivery service. “People wanted to pick us as their delivery person, which you can’t do with [with online apps],” Roach explained. “That got me thinking, and in January of 2023, I went and talked to the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in Ottawa. They thought it was a phenomenal idea, so we moved forward.”
Expanding Services and Reach
Sara’s Quickie Delivery aims to provide services beyond the capabilities of larger platforms, offering affordable and flexible delivery options. “We wanted to make it a delivery service with everywhere [online apps] does plus more,” Roach said. The service covers Oskaloosa, Beacon, University Park, and beyond, with a delivery fee structure designed to be affordable: $3 within city limits and $1 per mile outside those limits.
The business has seen substantial growth, leading to the hiring of a full-time employee, and the acquisition of a second vehicle. This expansion reflects the positive response from the community. “I was hoping it would do well, but I didn’t expect to be able to not have any other job and have it slowly growing progressively,” Roach admitted.
Partnerships and Varied Offerings
While fast food is not on the menu due to the time it takes for orders to be prepared, Sara’s Quickie Delivery has formed partnerships with several local restaurants and establishments. These include Asian Buffet, Chong Garden, and American Table, among others. The service also picks up groceries from Fairway, Hy-Vee, Walmart, and other locations like H&S Feed, and Tractor Supply.
Roach’s approach is customer-centric, willing to try delivering any item as long as it fits in the car. “We take each call because sometimes people do have things that we haven’t thought of. If it’s in the car, it goes,” she said.
Simplicity and Community Focus
One of the standout features of Sara’s Quickie Delivery is its simplicity. Customers order and pay for their goods directly from the stores or restaurants. The delivery service only charges for the transportation, ensuring no additional cost burden on the establishments. This has fostered a supportive relationship between Sara’s Quickie Delivery and local businesses.
Roach has also built strong connections with the staff at various pickup points, ensuring smooth operations. “We’ve made friendships with all of the people that work at those places. So they know when we call in and say, we’ve got an order to pick up for so and so,” she said.
Affordability and Accessibility
Despite the low delivery fee, Roach is confident in the business model. “We charge $3, and that way it’s priced to where we can get the masses paying us $3, making it affordable for everyone to use us,” she explained.
Future Prospects
With the current success, Roach is optimistic about the future. The business’s expansion plans include adding more delivery drivers and potentially more vehicles. Roach’s commitment to her community and her innovative approach to solving local needs have set Sara’s Quickie Delivery on a path to becoming a staple in Oskaloosa’s daily life.
