Ronald Roth, 79, of University Park, died Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at his home in University Park. He was born March 15, 1937, in Thornburg, Iowa, the son of Newell G. and Doris Patrick Roth.

Ron graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1955. He went on to graduate from the University of Denver in 1959 with a bachelor degree in Business Administration. While attending University of Denver Ron was active in the ROTC program. He served in the National Guard until 1966.

Following college graduation, he worked for GMAC in Colorado. Ron married Marilyn Steenhoek and to this union a son Andy was born, Marilyn and Ron later divorced. After a few years, he returned to Oskaloosa and opened Roth Volkswagen. He retired in 1990.

Ron was a member of the Elks Lodge, the American Legion, Isaac Walton League, and the South-Central Iowa Bass Club. He was an avid outdoorsman. Ron loved to hunt, fish, and go mushroom hunting. He also enjoyed shooting skeet and trap at the Isaac Walton League. He looked forward to going to breakfast every morning with his friends at Riverside II Restaurant.

He is survived by his granddaughter, Jillian Roth of Indianapolis; his daughter in law, Ellen Roth; his sister and her husband, Sharon (& John) Liechty of Leawood, Kansas; his nephew, John (& Kristin) Liechty; his niece, Jill (& Richard) Fullerton; 5 great nieces and nephews: J.D. and Joshua Liechty and Ella, Audrey, and Thomas Fullerton; three cousins: John Patrick, Terry Patrick, and Madonna Caudill; his close friend and companion, Marilyn Irelan of Ottumwa; and many friends.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents and his son Andy Roth.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating.
Burial will be in the Bluff Creek Cemetery southwest of Oskaloosa.
Graveside military honors will be given by members of the Oskaloosa American Legion and V.F.W. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Monday after 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel. The family will be at the funeral chapel from 9:00 until service time at 10:30 on Tuesday morning to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to Stephen’s Memorial Animal Shelter.
