Oskaloosa High Celebrates Class of 2016

OHS Senior Erin Shannon is congratulated by Superintendent Russell Reiter after receiving her diploma on Sunday afternoon.
Oskaloosa, Iowa – Graduation day is filled with just about every emotion possible. Both happiness and sadness, as the next generation passes into adulthood.
For Oskaloosa, over 130 students walked across the stage into the next chapter of their lives.
A welcome to the afternoon ceremony was presented by Russell Reiter, Superintendent of Oskaloosa School District.
A presentation of the senior class gift was given by the class president Brooke Caves. The class gifted a cash donation to help finance a new flag for the Oskaloosa High School.
Retiring staff members were honored by Stacy Bandy, Oskaloosa High School Principal. Those retiring staff members are; Pamela Behning, Janet Dodd, Shirlee Gallagher, Jay Harms, Susan Knox, Kristen Sarver, Michael Sash, and De Ann Thostenson.
Kylie Krier, representative of the senior class, used a quote from the Dr. Suess book, ‘Oh, The Places You’ll Go!’
“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go…”
― Dr. Seuss, Oh, The Places You’ll Go!
“He couldn’t have wrote this any clearer, and today we completed our first novel,” said Krier.
“Seniors, I just want to leave you with a little something. Each year is different,” said Tim Scott, Associate Principal of Oskaloosa High School. “You’re year number 32 for me.”
“Awesome. Make every day count. Do one good deal and make everybody that knows you proud that they know you, each and every day.”
And with the announcement, “Ladies and gentlemen, the Class of 2016”, the cheers erupted and students became adults.
