Oskaloosa Couple Escapes Burning Home
Oskaloosa, Iowa – The phone was ringing and the neighbor lady was pounding on the bedroom window. That was how Cecil and Sue Comstock woke up as the call to the fire department rang out at 3:45 am, on November 26th.
It appears the fire, located at 922 South 1st Street, started on the front porch of the residence and then swept its way inside. Early indications show the fire was an accident.
Both occupants did make it safely from the home by escaping out the back door, and no injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
Seventeen firefighters and five apparatus trucks were on the scene to battle the blaze. The last of the firefighters cleared the scene and returned to the station at 6:15 am.
The Oskaloosa Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Oskaloosa Police Department, Mahaska Health Partnership Emergency Services and Mid-American Energy.
