He was awarded six Bronze Service Stars, among many other medals, upon his discharge on November 13, 1945. Warren returned to Mahaska County and resumed helping his father on the family farm. On January 6, 1949, Warren married the love of his life, Adeline Van Mersbergen, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa. They rented three farms in southwest Jefferson Township before purchasing their farm in Jefferson Township in 1966. As a young man, Warren’s father insisted that he cut wood. Warren developed a skill and liking for the job and cut wood until he was over 100. He supplied many area residents with wood to warm their hearths and homes.
