NM Boys Race to Third at Pekin
PACKWOOD – North Mahaska’s boy’s track team scored well in the distance races to finish third at the Ruritan Relays at Pekin High School Monday. The Warhawks finished with 89 points. Van Buren outdistanced everyone with 136 points with Cardinal in second with 100.
Brayden Veiseth picked up the lone individual win taking the title in the 1,600 meters in 4 minutes 57 seconds. Teammate Ben Yang grabbed fourth in 5:20.35.
Veiseth and Yang ran the last two legs of the winning 3,200-meter relay along with Nate Sampson and Asher DeBoef. The Warhawk quartet finished in 9:20.
Andy Knockel secured two individual runnerup spots in the sprints. He was second to Cardinal’s Isaac Lett in the 100 and 200 meters. Knockel ran the 100 in 12.02 seconds while Lett finished in 11.56. Knockel finished the 200 in 23.44 while Lett ran 23.15.
Kaleb Stout placed second in the 400 meters in 57.47. Anthony Duncan of Van Buren won in 52.78. Lucas Nunnikhoven was second in the long jump with a leap of 19-feet 7-inches. Wyatt Mertens of Van Buren won with a jump of 19-11.
North Mahaska did well in the other field events as Gage Vane Voort was third in the discus at 121-10 and was fourth behind Ben Johannes in the shot. Johannes had a put of 38-3 whole Vande Voort had a throw of 38-0.
Another third was picked up by the 1,600 meter relay. Sampson, Lucas Nunnikhoven, Knockel and Stout covered the distance in 3:48.97. Nunnikhoven added a fourth in the 400 hurdles in 1:01.18.
NM will run at Belle Plaine Thursday.
