National Pie Day Bring Focus And Support To Local Agency

Representatives from Crisis Intervention Services served up Apple Pie on Friday at Penn Central Mall.
Oskaloosa, Iowa – National Apple Pie Day was celebrated at Penn Central Mall this past Friday.
With a donation to Crisis Intervention Services (CIS), a person could get a fresh slice of apple pie, and the donations go to help those in a time of crisis.
Crisis Intervention Services works to provide prevention and life skills, education, intervention, shelter, and outreach services to those being impacted by all forms of abuse.
Crisis Intervention Services serves; Appanoose, Davis, Jasper, Jefferson, Keokuk, Lucas, Mahaska, Marion, Monroe, Poweshiek, Wapello, and Wayne Counties in Central Iowa.
Jayme Mueller with CIS said that of the 60 slices of apple pie, less than 10 pieces remained after nearly an hour set up in the mall.
Mueller said that Apple Pie Day was a good way for CIS to raise awareness to individuals in the community about the service.
The smiles and laughter with the fun event are a stark contrast to the situations those advisors at CIS often see on a day-to-day basis.
Victims of sexual assault and domestic violence reach out for CIS assistance at that moment when things are their worst.
If you would like to help Crisis Intervention Services, you can do so by donating items needed by those seeking shelter, or you can check out their volunteer opportunities.
