MAHASKA COUNTY YMCA TO OFFER KIDS CLASS

Oskaloosa, Iowa, February 27, 2015– A new kids program will be offered at the Mahaska County YMCA starting Friday, March 27th at 4 PM.

“There is a need in this community for an organized, health minded class for kids. This will be an exciting opportunity for our youth to move, grove, lift, and play once a week on top of their regular physical education,” Lisa Wagner, fitness instructor.

This new kid’s class will kick off the week of Oskaloosa’s Spring Break, starting March 16th. Every day during that week, at 4pm, anyone grades 1st-8th can attend, members or nonmembers. This will be a great camp to promote the permanent class that will start Friday, March 27th and continue at least until Memorial Day weekend. The weekly Friday class will be opened for all Mahaska Co YMCA members from 1st-8th grade.

“The idea is to have them learning the fundamentals of cardio and strength training, but incorporate things that these kids like to do. Maybe it’s having a Friday Dance Party, or playing Line Tag, but also having days were we do body weight exercises and burpees,” Wagner says.

This class will have them doing a variety of workouts. Good healthy habits start young and if the Mahaska County YMCA can convince and hook these kids now, there is hope that they will carry this habit into their adult life making for a healthier generation.
