Jim Buffington, 71, of Oskaloosa passed away Saturday, February 25, 2017, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. Jimmie Ray Buffington was born on December 29, 1945, to Wilburn Swank and Roberta Johnson. Jim’s mother married Floyd Buffington and Floyd adopted him at a young age.

Jim was a 1964 graduate of Oskaloosa High School. After his education he worked at Springer Oil Company and was then drafted into the United States Army. Jim served two years in the military and he was deployed for a year of that time in Vietnam.

After his time in the service he worked briefly on an oil barge in Louisiana and then for Western Electric. Jim met Sue Goodman and the two were married on October 27, 1973. Jim and Sue started Edgetown Furniture in 1974 where he enjoyed a 40+ year career in the furniture business.

In his spare time, Jim enjoyed fishing and vacationing to Mexico. Jim and Sue have a deep love for animals. They adopted and cared for many cats and dogs. Jim was a member of the American Legion; the V.F.W., and the Humane Society of the United States.

Jim’s family includes his wife Sue Buffington of Oskaloosa; two sisters: Linda (& Robert “Dean”) Fisher of Carroll, IA and Shelly (& John Harper) Buffington of Columbus, OH; two brothers: Terry (& Diana) Buffington of Oskaloosa, IA and Kip (& Tammy) Buffington of Lincoln, NE; a sister-in-Law, Kathy (& Dennis) Mabee of Oskaloosa, IA; a brother-in-law, Dana (& Terri) Goodman of Huntington, IN; and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents.

As was Jim’s wish, his body has been cremated. His family will have a private service at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Stephens Memorial Animal Shelter.
