Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., Wednesday morning, June 20, 2012 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Rev. David Childers of the Gateway Church of the Nazarene officiating.
Interment: University Park Cemetery, University Park, Iowa
Jeannette passed away early Monday morning at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa at the age of 89 years, 5 months and 23 days.
Lillie Jeannette Edge, daughter of Guy and Lily Krell Thompson, was born December 26, 1922 in Cameron, Missouri. When Jeannette was sixteen years of age, her mother suffered a severe stroke and her father was injured in a logging accident a short time later. Jeannette cared for her mother in their home until her death four years later. Jeannette then went to lived in Des Moines with relatives and worked at a Bible Book Store for a year, before enrolling in the Chicago Evangelical Institute. While she was at C.E.I., she met Ivan Edge. They were united in marriage, August 26, 1950, in Chicago. In 1951, the Chicago Evangelical Institute moved to University Park, Iowa where it was renamed Vennard College in 1959. Jeannette and Ivan moved with the college and made their home in University Park. Jeannette stayed home with her children when they were young and later worked for several years at Kiddie College. Jeannette and Ivan were very committed to the mission of Vennard and served in many capacities. For many years they helped with the Iowa Holiness Association Camp Meetings and they took a special interest in keeping up the buildings and grounds. Jeannette was a member of the Gateway Church of the Nazarene. Jeannette treasured her time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Her family includes her sons and daughters-in-law: Timothy and Cheryl Edge of Eddyville and Samuel and Laurie Edge of Dixon, Iowa; six grandchildren: Tina (Jeff) Van’t Sant of Pella; Eric (Harmony) Edge of Eddyville; Angie Edge of South Bend, IN; Benjamin (Tricia) Edge of McCausland, IA; Shane (Stephanie) Edge of Denver, CO; and Ashley Edge of Davenport, IA; three step-grandchildren: Josh (Marti) Nicklaus of Oskaloosa; Daniel Sowers of Oskaloosa and David Sowers of Oskaloosa; six great grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Guy (Betty)Thompson Jr. of Colorado Springs, CO.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan on April 11, 1999 and three brothers: Earl, Jerry and Charles Thompson.
